On 12 June 1948, a Latécoère 631 descended upon Lake Geneva near the Quai du Mont-Blanc. Monumental in scale and almost mythical in presence, it remains the largest aircraft known to have landed on the lake. The episode survived principally through a limited body of photographs and fragmented records.

The Latécoère 631 belonged to the final age of grand transatlantic seaplane travel. Its passenger cabins incorporated beds, lounges and interiors conceived with the atmosphere of an ocean liner. The aircraft remained in Geneva for three days before continuing toward its transatlantic assignment in the Caribbean.

The composition restores this encounter to the recorded memory of the city, preserving Geneva as a place touched by one of aviation’s last great long-distance flying boats. The presence of the work within the collection of the Fondation Latécoère reinforces the historical continuity of the entry.
